The Trojan Armoured Engineer Vehicle is based on a Challenger 2 tank chassis, but lacks the main armament. It is currently in use with the Royal Engineers. It is used to breach minefields and for many other tasks. The Leopard 2A8 is powered by a 1,600 hp engine, an upgrade from the 1,500 hp engine used in previous versions. The tank is equipped with the Israeli Trophy active protection system, also referred to as the EuroTrophy, providing additional protection against incoming anti-tank rockets and missiles. The tank’s secondary armament is believed to include a coaxial 7.62 mm machine gun and a remotely-controlled weapon station with a 12.7 mm machine gun. It can also use DM11 programmable HE rounds, enabling it to engage targets behind cover and within buildings, as well as armored vehicles. The Leopard 2A8 is equipped with a Rheinmetall 120 mm/L55 smoothbore gun, compatible with all standard NATO 120 mm tank ammunition. The Leopard 2A8 is a testament to Germany’s commitment to maintaining a robust and modern armored force. This version, which evolved from the Leopard 2A7HU tank built for Hungary, is currently under consideration by the German armed forces. The Leopard 2A8 is the latest iteration of the renowned German Leopard 2 main battle tank.
